Sturgis Rally
Sturgis, SD
August 6th — 12th‚ 2008
Hard to imagine that all this began with a small race 68 years ago, but from our humble beginnings we offer you one of the world’s premier motorcycle events. We might not be the oldest, the Isle of Man’s TT Race gets that honorable distinction celebrating their 100th anniversary in 2007, and Laconia is second, hosting their 85th annual event this year in June, but we are arguably the largest and most unique, the ride you have to do at least once in your lifetime – we are Sturgis, the Granddaddy of them all! Sturgis is a relatively small community with a year round population of about 6,700, in a state that has just under 782,000 people. But in August our numbers swell to 500,000 plus, almost doubling the size of the state and encompassing much of South Dakota’s Black Hills. And it is those Hills that make us unique, or should I say, what is contained in those Hills. If you want to ride some of the countries most beautiful scenic roads then Sturgis is a must. Roads like Needles Highway, Iron Mountain Road, Custer’s Wildlife Loop and Spearfish Canyon take you to Mount Rushmore National Memorial, Custer State Park, Crazy Horse Memorial, Bear Butte State Park and Devil’s Tower National Monument. Highway 14A’s big, wide turns transport you to the infamous town of Deadwood and the mining town of Lead, and the awe inspiring Highway 385 meanders past towns like Hill City, Silver City and Custer, all contained in the Black Hills National Forest. It’s breathtaking and it’s glorious and it will make you wonder why it took you so long to get here! So come and join us! You’ll experience a ride of a lifetime in a place where local people can still show you a thing or two about hospitality and visiting exhibitors can show you anything and everything you’d want or need to customize your bike. Or heck, buy a new one while you are here! Harley introduces their new models each year during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and you can demo virtually every kind of bike on the market - custom, V-Twin or metric. It’s like being a kid again, in a candy store. Only better! Because in addition to the bikes there are concerts and races and bike shows, five blocks of Main Street bikes-only street vibe, the 6th Annual Mayor’s Ride, Michael Lichter’s annual exhibit, AMD’s World Championship of Custom Bikes, free style stunters, the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame, Vinnie and Cody, some pretty impressive watering holes, custom legends, blue skies and warm, sunny days. And it’s all waiting for you in the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota!” We’ll look forward to seeing you in August!
